Problem Note 56932: A SAS® 9.4 install might not list the "Perform a Planned Deployment" option in order to install and configure a SAS metadata server

DetailsAboutRate It

You encounter an issue during SAS install in which the Perform a Planned Deployment option, which is required to install and configure a SAS metadata server, is not available under these conditions:

  • You licensed SAS® Foundation products only, including SAS® Integration Technologies.
  • Your license did not include SAS® Enterprise BI Server or other SAS products that support a middle tier.

This issue occurs starting with SAS® 9.4M3 (TS1M3) because any new orders have the deployment types: Nonplanning or Basic. Before SAS 9.4M3, a new order for these same products was a Planning order, which did provide the Perform a Planned Deployment install option.

Workarounds

To install and configure a SAS metadata server for a SAS site that contains SAS Foundation products only, including SAS Integration Technologies, the SAS installation representative for your site should complete these steps:

  1. Contact the SAS Contracts Department.
  2. Provide the SAS Technical Support site number or order number.
  3. Ask to add the SAS Metadata Server to your licensed products. Then, a new SAS order will be generated as a Planning type order.
  4. Download and install from the new SAS order.

Alternately, contact SAS Technical Support for a workaround that allows you to use your current SAS 9.4M3 Nonplanning or Basic order, from an existing SAS Software Depot, to install a planned deployment.

Note: To confirm if the SAS order deployment type is Planning or Nonplanning, open the \SAS Software Depot\install_doc\ORDER#\soi.html file and search for Deployment Type.
